In a tight game it was the Chicago Giants 4, the Detroit Stars 2 in 11 innings at Comiskey Park.
The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Chicago came out on top in the 11th inning. Josh Gibson led off and keyed the rally when he ripped a one-base hit. Willie Mays stepped up next and he reached on an error. Tubby Scales then drew a walk to load the bases. Judy Johnson stepped in and he banged out a single scoring two teammates. Jimmie Crutchfield dug into the batter's box next, but he struck out. Phil Cockrell continued the rally and stroked a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Chicago had a total of 9 hits for the game.
The victory was credited to Cockrell (1-0) who went 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run. Cockrell got relief help from Bill Jefferson who gained credit for him 3rd save. Cannonball Willis (0-2) ended up with the loss in relief.
